  1. It is immensely sad that, despite the deep commitment to peace of a few special people, the horrors of war continue to be perpetrated. Either the human ape has a lamentably short memory or its instinct for destruction is ineradicable.

    Structures such as pagodas are welcome symbols of our better instincts but risk making us complacent. Unless humanity changes itself radically, they are but watch towers along the road to hell.
